The information comes directly from the specialized site Deadline, Paramount has just launched the production of a new Transformers live-action film. After persistent rumors for over a year, it seems that Michael Bay is indeed preparing to make his return to direct a film about the Autobots and Decepticons. But he won't be alone: Steven Spielberg will also be involved as a "creative producer", a role he held at the beginning of the Bayverse.
The traditional producers of the film franchise, including Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, are also expected to be back to finance this new project. The script written by Jason Fuchs earlier this year has apparently convinced Paramount and the teams, who are putting another coin in the machine.
No information on the plot or casting for now. All we know is that this new film would take place in a modern era.
Excerpt from the Deadline article:
Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are getting closer to their goal of bringing their Transformers back to the big screen and seem to want to call on familiar faces to revive the franchise. According to sources cited by Deadline, Paramount has tasked Steven Spielberg with overseeing all creative aspects of the upcoming "Transformers" live-action film, alongside long-time producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Michael Bay is in preliminary talks to resume the director's position.
Spielberg retains his role as executive producer and will now lead the creative direction of this eighth live-action installment. He previously held a similar creative role for the first two Transformers films that launched the franchise, which has generated over $5.4 billion in global box office revenue and transformed Hasbro's beloved toy brand into a global phenomenon.
Together, Spielberg and di Bonaventura will guide this new chapter to stay true to the spirit of the early "Transformers" films. Mark Vahradian, Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto, and Hasbro will also be producers.
The film is in development based on a script by Jason Fuchs. The plot details are currently kept secret, except that the action will take place in the present day. As the project is still in the early stages of development, no information regarding the casting is available at this time.
Will this new film be a sequel to Transformers: The Last Knight or a total reboot? We'll have to be patient to learn more.
